Rebecca and I are very glad to be in Rapid City, South Dakota, for the opening of her “My Dakota” exhibition at the Dahl Arts Center. As one can see in these installation shots, Rebecca is echoing the form of the book through writing some of her text pieces directly on the wall.
With this exhibition and book, Rebecca has managed to create something of poignant beauty and poetic resonance out of a family tragedy –– her brother’s untimely death. So this opening is particularly special because Rebecca’s father and mother, aged 92 and 85, are coming to the opening.
Also a nice coincidence: the New Yorker Photo Booth blog, is running a piece on Rebecca’s book today.––Alex Webb

My wife is from Spearfish SD & mother still lives there with a sister in Rapid. We now live near NYC. We probably could not make the opening, but hopefully get by the gallery to see your work. Will the book be available at the gallery and/or places like Amazon?

Hi David,
You can buy signed copies of the My Dakota book at the Dahl’s new gift shop, or unsigned copies on Amazon. Sorry you missed the opening. However, I — and my husband, the photographer Alex Webb, will be back twice over the course of the exhibition to give talks — Probably Tuesday August 7th for a lunch event, as well as an evening event on Friday, Oct. 5th, from 7-9pm. Hope I — and my husband — get a chance to meet you in person in Rapid. Or in NYC: I am in a group show — called “Weather” — at Ricco Maresca Gallery on Thursday, June 21st. Here’s the link: http://www.riccomaresca.com/exhibitions/exhibitions_upcoming.htm
Thanks again for your note. Here’s my direct email: rebeccanorriswebb@yahoo.com
Best,
Rebecca
